This project centers around the intricate creation and design of a sculpture, beginning with an in-depth exploration of joints. This investigation served as the cornerstone of the sculpture and demonstrated the wide-ranging applicability of joint concepts in various design settings. The idea was to perceive joints not just as structural components but as sources of creative inspiration. Each joint acted as a starting point for numerous forms, presenting boundless opportunities for innovation. This methodology transformed the design process into a journey of discovery, where each new joint iteration revealed further design potential. As the project progressed, the importance of materiality became evident, influencing both the physical structure and the narrative of the sculpture. Plaster of Paris, chosen for its translucent and versatile qualities, brought an organic fluidity to the jointed forms. This was complemented by laser-cut MDF sheets, which introduced a layer of precision and intricacy, contrasting the smooth plaster with the sharp lines of cut wood. The interaction between these materials created a dynamic conversation, blending the tactile nature of plaster with the detailed precision of MDF. This contrast invited viewers to experience the sculpture not only visually but also through touch. Moreover, the exploration of materials extended beyond the sculpture, proposing how these materials could be used to create a variety of functional objects. The jointed forms initially designed as part of the sculpture evolved into a unified design language applicable to a wide range of objects. Ultimately, this project showcases the transformative power of design thinking, where the interplay of joints, materials, and forms creates a compelling narrative. It highlights design as not merely a functional task but as a medium for storytelling, encouraging viewers to engage with a world where every element contributes to a thoughtfully crafted story.
